Where it began...
The Institute of Road Transport Engineers New Zealand began in 1969 and became an incorporated body in 1985.
A group of like minded men gathered in Hamilton on the 10th July 1969 to form a NZ branch of the UK based group, Institute of Road Transport Engineers. (Inaugural minutes). The objectives of the NZ organisation were:
- To promote efficiency in the Road Transport System
- To improve and raise the technical and general skill, knowledge and competence of people asscociated with Road Transport
- To improve the standard of safety and reduce the environmental impact of vehicles on roadways

Past Presidents
Over the years we were headed by innovators and business leaders who were immersed in Heavy Transport, either as engineers, operators, manufacturers or suppliers. They were driven by their desire to improve the technical knowledge of members and the wider industry and to help raise the performance of the NZ heavy vehicle fleet. They committed significant time and energy to administer and grow the reach and influence of IRTENZ.
